Box of 12. This BBA / HAPAS Approved preformed thermoplastic overbanding tape is designed for use on joints in asphalt and concrete surfaces to help prevent the ingress of water and reduce the likelihood of early life fretting and failure of the joint. The addition of a high PSV aggregate ensures the overbanding maintains a high skid resistance throughout its service life.

Tape Size 5m x 35mm

Application

The tape is easily installed with minimal equipment required. Ensure the joint is clean and free from any contaminants that might inhibit good adhesion. The surface should be dry and above 0°C. Using a gas flame torch, gently warm the surface where the tape will be applied. For applications onto concrete, a bitumen primer should first be applied and allowed to dry. For bituminous surfaces, the tape can be applied directly without the need for a primer.

Installation Process

  1. Cut the tape to size using a sharp-bladed knife and position it along the joint. A slight overlap is required when joining sections.
  2. Once satisfied with the positioning, use a lit gas torch with a powerful flame and heat approximately 200mm above the surface in a slow sweeping motion.
  3. As heating progresses, the tape will become molten. Take care not to overheat to avoid burning and discolouration.
  4. Continue heating until the entire strip is molten. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes.
  5. Check that the edges are well adhered by using a flat blade or screwdriver to ensure the material cannot be prised upward. Apply additional heat if required until a good bond is achieved.
  6. Allow the tape to fully cool before opening the surface to traffic.
