Thermoplastic Line Marking Tape Preformed Rolls for Professional Road and Car Park Markings
Get your lines marking installed fast, traffic-ready in minutes.
Thermoplastic line marking is a special type of hot-melt road marking material that sticks to tarmac-adam surfaces when heated up with a propane torch. Thermoplastic actually melts into the surface texture itself, so the markings stay looking sharp for years on end, even with all the heavy traffic and forklifts, not to mention our lovely UK weather.
We've used these pre-cut thermoplastic rolls for years on lots of UK projects, busy car parks, warehouse floors, highway reinstatement works and even school playgrounds. And the difference between these and traditional paint markings is pretty dramatic. Most contractors who try the thermoplastic don't go back to painting for line marking after that.
Thermoplastic line marking tape is ideal for all sorts of things - highways, cycle lanes, footpaths, ports, car parks, playgrounds and even sports pitches. It's simple to apply the tape as long as you've got a dry tarmac-adam surface, which makes it perfect for projects where downtime really needs to be kept to a minimum.
Why Use Thermoplastic Line Marking
-
Long Lasting - We've spent years testing Thermoplastic line marking to withstand the tough conditions - day in, day out.
-
Almost Instant Results - One of the big advantages of Thermoplastic is how easy it is to install and how quickly it sets. Before you know it, the material is dry, and you can be driving a car or forklifting over it - almost as soon as we've put down the equipment. Typically, we can be long gone, and the road or car park is back in action within 5-10 minutes.
-
Night-time advantage, our tests have shown that our high-grade glass beads give thermoplastic road markings an edge in terms of visibility - a 10% boost, or so we've found. Plus, the bright white and yellow colours just seem to keep shining through, even in the wet or at night.
-
Strong - We've tested Thermoplastic line marking in all sorts of harsh conditions - rain, snow, ice, sunlight - and when installed properly, it lasts every time.
Why Thermoplastic Stands Apart from Paint Markings
Thermoplastic line marking is different altogether from paint:
-
Becoming One With the Surface – When you heat up the preformed thermoplastic tape with a blowtorch, it melts right into the surface of the tarmac-adam & it becomes like an integrated part of it rather than some coating on top. And as the thermoplastic cools down, it creates a strong bond between the two that can't be easily broken. That's why thermoplastic markings tend to stick around - if you do the job right the first time.
-
Withstands the Heavy Traffic Our thermoplastic is made up of special synthetic resins, fillers and pigments that are designed to take a pounding from tyres, the scraping of turning wheels and the constant pressure of cars or big lorries and forklifts. Thermoplastic line marking has become pretty popular for public roads, highways, pedestrian crossings and industrial sites just because it's so easy to put down, it's durable and reflective.
-
Year-round installation: Thermoplastic line marking can be installed throughout the year, although extra care should be taken during colder weather conditions. If the surface is cold, it is recommended to gently pre-heat the area with a gas torch before application to help improve bonding. During winter months, it is also best to store the thermoplastic rolls at room temperature for 24-48 hours before use, where possible.

Installing Thermoplastic Line Marking - Here's How to Do it Right
1. Get Your Surface Ready for Action
Give the area a good sweep to make sure it's spotless and free of any debris - you don't want any obstacles getting in the way & the same goes for any existing lines - get rid of those too before applying the new ones. Your surface needs to be in decent condition, not too cracked, not too oily and clear of any loose. Now on brand new asphalt & tarmac-adam surfaces, you can place the thermoplastic line marking tape without any extra steps - but, do put a primer on if you're applying to concrete or really worn old, polished tarmac-adam. Click here to see our primer.
2. Getting the Right amount of heat
Use a propane torch to apply your pre-formed markings. To get the pre-formed rolls to stick, just place the tape on the surface & then give it a gentle, even go with the gas torch. Just be careful not to go over the top - keep the flame at a distance, moving steadily back & forth. What you're looking for is the thermoplastic to soften up a bit & flow into the surface texture - you'll know it's working when it starts to look all shiny & sets itself down into the Tarmac-adam or surface. 180-200°C is the standard for proper fusion.
3. Instant bond- Job Done
As the material cools down, it solidifies & becomes a permanent bond with the surface. After that, the marking is ready for traffic - usually after about 5-10 minutes for regular vehicle use. The benefit of thermoplastic tape is that you don't have to close the site down for long periods of time, with no lengthy curing time.
Important Safety Note: When installing thermoplastic markings, proper torch use is a must. Make sure you are wearing heat-resistant gloves, face protection & eye protection. Flame-resistant clothing is also a good idea. Good ventilation in enclosed spaces is a must; you should follow all the proper procedures for handling gas.

Thermoplastic line marking tape comes in all sorts of sizes & colours, which means you can choose the exact product for the job at hand - whether that's marking up parking bays or creating road signs. Before you go ahead & order, you can purchase exactly what you need in terms of colours, widths & any complex markings like arrows, letters or symbols. here
Note: Thermoplastic line marking has this really useful ability - it can create a textured surface when you apply thick layers of it - think rumble strips, for instance. Those are a great way to grab a driver's attention and can be especially useful near junctions or pedestrian walkways where you really need to make them aware of their surroundings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply it over existing paint lines?
We advise giving old paint a good old boot and removing any existing lines before trying to apply thermoplastic. The best results will come from it, and it'll look a whole lot better. Old paint can act like a barrier and stop the new thermoplastic from properly sticking to the surface underneath. If that's not an option, then a primer might do the trick, just make sure the existing marking is stuck on good and not loose, and the surface is spick and span.
What equipment do I need to apply thermoplastic?
You will need a suitable propane torch or similar gas torch for installing thermoplastic line marking correctly. A quality blow torch designed for thermoplastic application is recommended to ensure even heating and proper bonding to the surface. For blow torches, click here.
You will also need the correct gas regulators and hoses to safely operate the equipment. Our torch kits already include the correct compatible regulators and hoses required for thermoplastic installation.
How long before I can use the markings?
usually ready to use within 5-10 minutes of application, sometimes less if it's a nice, calm day. We don't need to wait for it to cure, just as soon as it cools and solidifies its good to go.
Will thermoplastic work in all weather conditions?
You can apply thermoplastic all year round, easily. Now, if it's cold outside, you might need to give the surface a little pre-heat with your gas torch before trying to stick the tape on. And, yeah, it's a good idea to avoid applying it in the middle of a downpour or on a wet surface - you want something for the material to stick to.
