Overbanding Bitumen Tape BBA/HAPPAS Approved - Ready Set Supplied

Overbanding Bitumen Tape BBA/HAPPAS Approved

Overbanding Joint Sealing Tape – Skid-Resistant and BBA / HAPAS Approved

This preformed bitumen overbanding tape is designed to seal joints on asphalt, tarmacadam, and concrete surfaces. It’s widely used after pothole repairs, road reinstatement work, or utility trenching, helping to block water ingress that can weaken the repair. By sealing over the joint, it prevents cracking, fretting, and premature failure.

BBA / HAPAS approved for use on the UK road network, the tape contains high PSV aggregate throughout its structure, ensuring a skid resistance rating of over 60 SRV. Unlike lower-grade alternatives that lose grip soon after application, this material maintains traction in all conditions, including wet weather and sharp bends.

Known by several names — overbanding tape, bitumen roll, joint sealing tape, tar banding, or reinstatement strip — it’s the professional choice for finishing pothole and reinstatement jobs to specification.

Application Guide

Installation is quick and requires only a propane gas torch.

  1. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and above 0°C, with loose material removed.

  2. For concrete or block paving, apply bitumen primer and allow it to dry.

  3. Cut tape to length and position over the joint, overlapping slightly if necessary.

  4. Warm the surface gently, then heat the tape in a sweeping motion (around 200mm above).

  5. Allow the tape to melt, flow, and bond to the surface — avoid overheating.

  6. Let it cool for 5–10 minutes, then check adhesion with a flat blade.

  7. Once cooled, reopen the area to traffic.

Cold Weather Use

In colder months, store rolls at room temperature before use. Cold tape can stiffen and crack, so pre-warming ensures it unrolls smoothly and bonds evenly when heated.
