Thermoplastic Letters and Numbers

Durable Road Marking Letters That Last Years, Not Months

Thermoplastic letters & numbers give you pavement markings that really stand the test of time - they can take years of heavy traffic & harsh weather without fading like they would with some cheap paints. These preformed thermoplastic markings are made in a factory from a top-grade thermoplastic which has got reflective glass beads built right in, making them look super crisp & highly visible. You can just heat them up & stick them straight onto an asphalt or concrete surface.

While painted road signs are always starting to fade & wear out after just a short while, thermoplastic road markings normally last between three to five years in normal conditions, but some high-performance systems will still be going strong at the end of ten years. That's why they're the go to choice for highway contractors, car park owners & facility managers who want a low-maintenance road marking solution they can rely on.

Why You’ll Love Thermoplastic Letters

  • Superior Durability - These road markings are built to withstand the worst of it - they can put up with heavy machinery, snowploughs & constant traffic . They're also resistant to sunlight, water, oil & extreme weather, staying visible for years on end.

  • Fast Installation - They're quick & easy to put down - letters are ready for traffic within 5-10 minutes. That means minimal disruption to roads, car parks & utility works.

  • High Visibility - The glass beads in the thermoplastic make the markings super visible at night, which is great for road safety & sticking to international standards. You get long lasting visibility that stays visible through all conditions.

  • Weather Resistant - These road markings are engineered to handle all sorts of weather - hot sunshine, freezing snow, pouring rain & extreme temperatures. Additives make them even less prone to fading so they stay looking good for years to come.

  • Cost-Effective - It lasts so long means you'll save a fortune on maintenance down the line. Fewer reapplications means less labour & less disruption to traffic over the years.

What Makes Them Different

Most painted letters are quite a maintenance headache - they need repainting every year and before you know it they're almost invisible under all the wear and tear from vehicles.

Thermoplastic letters are a whole different story though :

  • Heat Fused Right to the Road – a gas torch just melts the preform onto the road surface, giving you really strong adhesion that won't let you down even in harsh weather or under heavy traffic.

  • Crisp Edges Every Time – each letter comes factory fitted with consistent dimensions & sharp edges meaning that even the most DIY installation is going to look like a pro job.

  • Chemical Toughness – nothing gets to it, not even oil, fuel, road salt, or the cleaning chemicals that get used in car parks.

How It Works

  1. Getting the Surface Ready Make sure the surface is clean and free of dust, mess and any other debris - you can just apply the thermoplastic line marking tape direct onto dry asphalt or tarmac with a bit of a wash & go approach. If you're dealing with concrete or a surface that's seen better days you'll need to apply a tack coat primer on there to make sure it's got the best chance of sticking.

  2. Heating It Up Put the preform thermoplastic letters in position and then just torch them with a bit of heat (around 180-200C) to melt the material & get it fused onto the road.

  3. Job Done - Instant Markings The letters cool in no time and you're ready to go with some new permanent road markings in about 5-10 minutes flat - no need for any fancy equipment beyond the torch once you've got the hang of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do Thermoplastic Letters Actually Last For? Standard issue thermoplastic markings are likely to last anything up to a good 3-5 years before they start to fade - although some of the higher-end stuff can manage up to a decade. Of course, a number of factors can play a part here - how much traffic is going to be passing over it, what state is the road surface in, and how much punishment it gets from the elements all make a difference.

What sorts of Surfaces can Thermoplastic Letters be Stuck to? They're suitable for use on asphalt, tarmac, and concrete - a dry asphalt surface is fine just as it is but if you're looking to stick them to a concrete or worn surface then a bit of primer to help them stick is a good idea.

Do I need any Special Equipment to get the Job Done? To get the material to stick properly you are going to need a gas torch to heat it up - and of course if you want to make sure you get a good finish and avoid any mistakes then using a proper applications professional is a good way to go.

How do I figure out how Many Letters I need? Well, first of all you need to count up how many characters are in the message - then just get in touch with us and we can give you a quote based on how big the letters are and how many you need - we can even help you out with planning and supply.

Can I easily take them Down Again if I Need To? Yes, removal is possible - but be warned it's not just a case of scraping them off - you're going to have to get out the blow torch to get rid of them properly.
