What Does a Danger Ahead Sign Mean?
The exclamation mark warns drivers about a hazard that does not have its own dedicated warning symbol. It alerts approaching traffic to take extra care, while an accompanying plate identifies the particular danger.
For road use, Diagram 562 must be used with an appropriate supplementary plate. Messages can include “Hidden dip”, “Fallen tree” or “Road liable to flooding”, depending on the hazard. The triangle alone does not explain what drivers should expect.
